STAMATIS PROIKAS S.A. Greek Dairy Products

The company STAMATIS PROIKAS S.A. is located in Sohos of Thessaloniki, a mountainous town in the Municipality of Lagadas, since its establishment. It specializes in the production of cheese products for three generations and specifically for more than a century, using only the animal milk of the wider region of Sohos and is well-known in Greece for its excellent-quality dairy products.

It all started when Stamatis Proikas’ grandfather returned to Sohos from Mount Athos where, having worked as a cooper, he learnt the art of cheese from the monks. He immediately made his first flock in order to develop milk production. The grandson Stamatis continued his grandfather’s enterprise in his effort to support his orphaned of father family. In post-war Greece, Stamatis decided to found the first professional dairy in 1962, taking into account that the market of Thessaloniki had already appreciated and recognized the kasseri which was produced in Sohos. According to the legislation in force, the kasseri which was produced, was named after the producer and the term KASSERI CHEESE PROIKAS SOHOS remains the name of the product until today. In 1979, Stamatis Proikas’ daughter, Eleni, who belongs to the third generation of the family, took over the company and she continues managing it until today. Also, her daughters successfully take action in the company opening up new prospects for its development and continuous evolution.

STAMATIS PROIKAS S.A. products, which are numbered in 50 types of traditional as well as new generation cheese, are considered to be of high-quality in the cheese industry because they continue to be produced exclusively from selected Greek milk without additives, preservatives or improvers and they are all matured for a long period. In this way, they succeed in maintaining exceptionally high quality, important nutritional value, the uniqueness of authentic Greek cheese taste and the enjoyable sense of after-taste that fascinates even the most demanding consumer.

KASSERI PROIKAS SOHOS, which is the main product of the company, is the snack of three generations of consumers. Grandparents knew and offered it to their children and the new generations offered it in turn to their own children. Thus, for three generations, KASSERI PROIKAS SOHOS succeeded in showing the simplicity of enjoying a slice of bread with kasseri for brunch or for afternoon snack. It can also be used melted to give flavor and intensity to homemade pizza satisfying children and adults’ hunger in the evenings.
